EMDR For Divorce: Paving the Way for Positive Progress
By Christopher Couling, LLMSW
Moving Through the Divorce Process Can Be Challenging
The divorce process involves more than just the end of a relationship.
It is often accompanied by grief, shock, betrayal, guilt, fear, identity disruption, parenting stress, financial uncertainty, and painful memories that continue to feel emotionally charged. Processing difficult memories and emotions can help bring clarity about the best path forward.
EMDR can help clients process distressing moments connected to the divorce process, including conflict, infidelity, rejection, custody stress, emotional abuse, sudden life changes, or beliefs such as “I failed,” “I’m not enough,” “I can’t trust again,” or “I’ll never be okay after this.”
Treatment is focused, collaborative, and paced carefully to support healing, clarity, and a stronger sense of self moving forward.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR does not involve medication and is often a faster way to complete a course of therapy. The treatment allows the patient to explore, process, and ultimately say goodbye to haunting negative beliefs.
